BUDGET: Lagos to spend N101bn on wages, pensions-Monsuru Olowoopejo

LAGOS—Lagos State Government yesterday said N101 billion (20.6 per cent) of the N489 billion budget approved by the State House of Assembly would be spent on wages and pension benefits of civil servants in the state.
Meantime, the state Head of Service, Mrs. Oluseyi Williams has warned civil servants in the state that non-collection of their Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs, from Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would disenfranchise them in 2015 election, saying “INEC wants to frustrate you.”
Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pension, Mrs. Florence Oguntuase disclosed this at the 7th Pre-retirement seminar for civil servants who would retire between January and June 2015 held at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
Oguntuase said the personnel cost in the 2015 budget consist of the wages and terminal benefits of civil servants under the state employ, adding “From the 2015 budget, about N101 billion has been set aside for wages and pension benefits of civil servants.”
The state governor, Babatunde Fashola during the budget presentation at the State House of Assembly last year described the budget as a ‘Pensioner’s Budget’.
The commissioner noted that the 2014 Pension Reform Act which increased Contributory Pension Scheme, CPS from 7.5 percent to 10 percent was “included in the 2015 budget.”
