Kaduna State Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar
Ramalan Yero has launched the distribution of cheques worth over 800
million naira to 309 pensioners and next of kin of deceased civil
servants in the state.
Flagging off the distribution at General
Hassan Usman Katsina House, Kaduna, the Governor said the exercise is a
clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to ensure the
welfare of pensioners across the state.
He pointed out that over 200 billion naira
have been spent in payment of pension and gratuity since the inception
of his administration, adding that his administration is committed to
offset all the liabilities on ground and thereafter increase the pension
in the interest of the people.
Governor Yero, further noted that the
welfare of the state civil servants remain sacrosanct, stressing that he
will continue to do its best to ensure improved welfare to the people
of the state.
In his remarks, the chairman Nigerian Union
of Pensioners, Kaduna chapter, Alhaji Abdulrahman Kwarmai, applauded
the governor for the gesture.
He said the efforts of this administration
in improving the welfare of pensioners and next of kin of the deceased
has really shown how committed government is to the plight of the
people.
He called on the beneficiaries to support
the governor in his re-election bid to pilot the affairs of the state
for the next four years.
