Offa pensioners build secretariat

Members of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State have built and inaugurated an ultra modern secretariat as part of their self-help community project.
Speaking at the event, the national president of the association, Dr. A.O. Afolayan, commended members of the association, saying NUP in Offa was the first branch to construct such a befitting secretariat in the country.
The NUP national president, who was represented by the vice-president of the association, Comrade Oyewale Jolaoye, urged all other branches to emulate the success story.
He said that the national headquarters of the union was addressing various problems facing pensioners in the country, assuring that the problems would be settled soon.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Kwara State branch of NUP, Alhaji Haliru Mohammed, praised members for being good managers of meagre resources, charging them not to rest on their oars.
He said the state NUP officials were poised to solve problems of pensioners such as delay in payment of gratuities to retirees, especially local government retirees in the state.
In his speech, the Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Olanipekun, attributed the numerous achievements by pensioners in Offa Local Government Area to members’ unity and sense of purpose.
The council boss, who said Offa town was leading in self-help development projects, urged members to continue to keep the flag flying.
